Marriage Registration has been made mandatory in India after supreme court decision for betterment of woman.
Marriage solemnized as per any religious customs and rituals should be registered at the registrar.
The charges and certificates may be different as this is done only wrt the locality.
Marriage registration is not like registrar marriage. It's making the marriage registered, post the marriage date.
The basic requirements are as below. Below may differ at different places and you should visit the registrar office for exact requirements.
Affidavits at most of the places does not require any stamps but just the notary.
The fee for registration may differ but its minimum for first 1 month of marriage. Later there are some fine for late registration is applicable.
The need of presence of witness and Pandit/kaazi totally depends on the registrar officer.
As after submitting signed forms and affidavit, it's only for his satisfaction if he personally wish to see them all. But better be with witness at-least.
Never forget to ask the person to prepare the certificate in English, as usually it gets prepared in local language by default.

- You need to submit 4 or more photographs of groom and bride performing marriage customs and rituals of the religion declared.
- You will need to submit 5 notarized affidavits in total for below.
1. Groom
2. Bride
3. Witness 1
4. Witness 2
5. Pandit/kaazi.. whoever got the marriage rituals performed. - Beside this you will need 1 passport photo of bride and groom each.
- Age and address proof of bride and groom.
- Marriage card of both bride and groom side.
- You may also need a couple photo together(2 copies), as at some places this is also pasted on marriage certificate.
